Bachelor- und Masterstudium Architektur

Im Oktober 2007 wurde ein neuer Bachelor- und Masterstudiengang am Institut für Kunst und Architektur an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien eingeführt. Der neue Studienplan stellt einen Neuanfang und frische Perspektiven für die Architekturausbildung dar.

In der Vergangenheit wurde in der Architekturausbildung mit Themen innerhalb und außerhalb der Architekturdisziplin experimentiert. Trotz vieler Reformen von Studienprogrammen in Europa, bestimmt das Beaux Arts Modell noch immer den Unterrichtscharakter und es mangelt an einer prinzipiellen Infragestellung des Verhältnis zwischen Lehrplänen, Ausbildungsstätten und der Produktion von Architektur. Infolgedessen gibt es im Großen und Ganzen zwei Arten von Schulen: solche, die Studenten zu »denken« lehren, und solche, die Studenten »praktisch« ausbilden. Nur selten finden sich Einrichtungen, die in ihrer Ausbildung beide Aspekte verbinden.

Zu Beginn eines neuen Jahrhunderts und angesichts zunehmender Umweltkatastrophen gilt es Architektur und die Architekurausbildung neu zu bestimmen. Wir begreifen Architektur als ein intellektuelles und  ideelles Konstrukt, das an wirtschaftliche, politische und soziale Kräfte gekoppelt ist. Architekturschaffende müssen ebenso wachsam und neugierig, wie innovativ, erfinderisch und kritisch sein. Daher erziehen wir unsere Studenten dazu, forschend mit Ideen zu experimentieren und deren Glaubwürdigkeit und Umsetzbarkeit praktisch zu erproben. Wer sich für Architektur als Feld interessiert, in dem man seine intellektuellen Fähigkeiten einsetzt und sich unablässig für eine bessere Welt ausspricht; wer darauf besteht, zu hinterfragen, wie wir in unserer Umwelt leben, und Dialogen und Auseinandersetzungen gegenüber aufgeschlossen ist, wird mit der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien die richtige Wahl treffen. Wir suchen die besten Studenten in Europa und weltweit, die daran Interesse haben, in die Zukunft der Architektur zu investieren.


Bachelor and Master Program in Architecture

A new curriculum, a new start and a new outlook for architectural education. The Institute for Art and Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna launched its new programm in October 2007.
 
Architectural education in the past decade has experimented with a variety of subjects within and outside of the boundaries of architectural production. In spite of many changes and reforms in  programmes in Europe, most architecture curricula and schools have not questioned the nature of teaching nor its relationship to the production of architecture since the Beaux Arts model. As a result there are those schools that teach students to “THINK” and others that train them to “DO” -  very rare are those schools that combine these in the course of the architect´s education.
 
In the wake of a new century and the environmental disasters architecture and its education need to be challenged and new models invented. We believe that architecture is an intellectual construction of ideas tied to its socio-economic and political context. It needs to be alert and inquisitive, at the same time innovative, inventive and critical. Consequently we educate our students to experiment with ideas through research, test their credibility and viability through making and project their implementation in practice.
