DAS STÄDTEBAU-QUARTETT

Discussions | 21.5. | 28.5. | 6.6.2013

The STÄDTEBAU-QUARTETT is a format of perpetual discussion:

The STÄDTEBAU-QUARTETT is 4 people:
Roland Rainer Chair Bernd Vlay (host) welcomes 1 representative of Vienna’s planning culture and 2 guests from abroad. The guests will “pro-voke” the debate, putting on the table a hot topic in the international debate of city-planning.

The STÄDTEBAU-QUARTETT is a cooperation
between the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna and Europan Österreich, with a special support of the city of Vienna, hosting the Foundation of the Roland Rainer Chair at the IKA (Institut für Kunst und Architektur/ Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna).

The STÄDTEBAU-QUARTETT has a location:
Prospekthof, Atelierhaus der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien, Lehargasse 6-8, 1060 Vienna.

On Possible Futures of Urban Design

Are we able to install ‘Stadtplanung‘ as a durable cultural formation in order to allow the best possible future for a “city” which has to be established as an arena of radical co-existence?

Is it not necessary to discuss incessantly and without compromise ‘Stadtplanung‘ as a cultural project which has been historically dispelled to the realm of technical disciplines?

Can the ‘ambiguous figure‘ of the architect – the generalist for the context – still act as a mediator between humanities, social sciences and technical engineering?
